This course provides continuing education for physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. A general attendance certificate is also available.


This session will focus on pediatric and adolescent psychiatric conditions and treatments in the family practice and pediatric settings. Dr. Tramell will describe accessible diagnostic tools easily used in a medical setting and use a case-based presentation to illustrate child psychiatric standards of care in common childhood and adolescent psychiatric conditions frequently presenting in the pediatric and family practice clinic.

Objectives:

  • Identify at least five indications of ADHD and four treatment modalities.
  • List three types of anxiety and two appropriate treatments for each.
  • Name at least three signs or symptoms of depression and two treatment modalities.

  • Michael Tramell, MD, MDiv, MPH

    Dr. Tramell was born and raised in Southern California. He attended Wheaton College followed by Fuller Theological Seminary where he got his Masters of Divinity in Christian Formation and Discipleship. He then studied Public Health at Yale University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He attended Loma Linda Medical School where he also did his residence in Psychiatry. He then attended the University of California San Diego where he did a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and did an additional fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Southern California. He remains on faculty at both UCSD and USC and is Board Certified in three areas of psychiatry. In addition to his private practice and consulting work, he works part time for the County of San Diego in the Juvenile Hall and part time for Rady Children’s Hospital.
