Introduction to Ethics for Fire Protection Engineers

In the practice of the fire protection and safety engineering, professionals must maintain and constantly improve their competence and perform under a standard of professional behavior which requires adherence to the highest principles of ethical conduct. This 1-hour on-demand course covers ethics for the Fire Protection Engineer.

The course will provide an overview of ethics and the practice of engineering and how it relates to ethics. It will also explain the ethical obligations an engineer must hold themselves to. The SFPE Code of Ethics is referenced and discussed in depth. Finally, this course will discuss typical ethical challenges faced in the field, and a discussion of case studies to help you apply what you’ve learned.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Understand what is ethics and how ethics apply to the practice of engineering.
  • Understand the SFPE Code of Ethics.
  • Understand how professional engineering licensure in various states relates to ethics.
  • Be able to identify typical conflicts of interest.

Prerequisites
No prerequisites are required.

Target Audience
This course is intended for all career/knowledge levels in fire protection engineering.

Course Assessment
Participants will take an exam upon completion of the course. Candidates will need to pass with a minimum score of 70%.

This is a self-paced course available on-demand and is divided into six learning modules. Once you complete all modules, survey, and course assessment, you will be provided your PDH Certificate of Completion.
