Research in Fire Engineering: Risk and Performance Assessment Framework for a Sustainable and Fire Resilient Building Environment (SAFR-BE)

On-demand access to June 14 webinar is now available.

The webinar will present the proof-of-concept version of SAFR-BE, a framework for assessing fire resilience and environmental sustainability of the built environment. In this first version, the assessment framework has been adopted for a multi floor apartment building in order to test the capability of the methods used for its development. The overall goals for SAFR-BE are assessed by grading aspects of importance for fire resilience and environmental sustainability, considering the relative importance of each aspect towards the goal. The framework has been tested on three case buildings with good results. The framework shows a potential for developing a future tool with a more elaborated assessment, the current version is more to be seen as a pilot test to determine its capability.

Learning Objectives:
Attendees will be able to:
1) Explain the SAFR-BE framework.
2) Understand the development process behind the SAFR-BE assessment framework.
3) Describe how different design can impact a building's fire safety and sustainability performance.
