  • For US addresses, shipping will be by USPS and will take three to five days for delivery.
  • For Canadian and international addresses, shipping will also be by USPS but can take much longer. Tracking will be available.

Introduction

This 109 Civil Construction online course focuses on understanding civil construction materials and methods. This includes civil site preparation and grading, excavation, back fill, compaction, trenching, paving, and de-watering. Discussions on the proper methods of determining earthwork quantities, estimating civil construction costs and safety implications will take place throughout the course.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this online class on you will:
  1. Understand standard terminology and units of measurement used in heavy construction
  2. Explain the properties of civil construction materials
  3. Perform basic quantity take-offs and estimating for heavy civil construction
  4. Calculate quantities and costs for site work, utilities and paving
  5. Develop an awareness of construction safety related to earth moving operations
  6. Explain and discuss a variety of storm water and run off methods
  7. Understand the procedures and processes of civil site work construction

Grading Policies

Graded assignments will consist of one homework, one quiz and participation in at least two class discussions for each module. Each quiz will count 10 points, each homework 10 points, and class discussions will count 10 points per module. Students should provide at least 3 contributions to the class discussions each week to gain the maximum points. Grades will be posted on a weekly basis. You will have full access to your grade sheet and can keep track of how you are doing at all times. Your overall grade in the course will be determined by the total number of points you have accumulated on quizzes and assignments. The grading scale is as follows.
  • A 270 to 300 points
  • B 240 to 269 points
  • C 210 to 239 points
  • D 180 to 209 points
  • Anything less will be considered either failure or an unauthorized withdrawal from the course

Withdrawals and Refunds

You may withdraw from this course by sending an email to education@aacei.org requesting to be dropped from the course. Non-attendance or notifying the instructor does not constitute officially dropping or withdrawing from a course. Students who stop attending courses without officially dropping will receive a grade of U in the class. Refunds are not automatic. NO refunds are due unless the course is officially dropped within stated guidelines of the refund schedule.

Refund Schedule
  • Withdrawal received before the first day of class – total fee less a $125 cancellation fee.
  • Refund requests postmarked on or after the first day and no later than two weeks after the first day of class will be refunded 65% of the fee, after which time there is no refund.
  • Decision on withdrawals and refunds will be based on the date when the written withdrawal notice is received by AACE International.
