(CDR-1526) Ranking AACE International’s Forensic Schedule Analysis Methodologies

Primary Author: Mr. Robert M. D'Onofrio PE

Audience Focus: Intermediate
Application Type: Application
Venue: 2014 AACE International Annual Meeting, New Orleans, LA, USA

Abstract: AACE International’s Recommended Practice 29R-03 Forensic Schedule Analysis (“RP29R-03” or “the RP”) identifies various methods for conducting schedule delay analysis, but does not recommend or apply any preference amongst the methods. This article uses RP29R-03’s guidance to rank the methods in RP29R-03, and compare that ranking result with a ranking of methods in the Society of Construction Law’s Delay and Disruption Protocol and with a ranking of methods based on US legal decisions. All three analyses reach similar conclusions with respect to preferred method ranking and order. Despite the fact that the name of a method is not as important as how it is implemented, ranking the RP29R-03 methods based on the guidance in RP29R-03 is useful for high level discussion to reduce debate over methodology and to reduce usage of lower ranked methods that are technically flawed.
