This paper discusses the importance of
Look-Ahead Schedules in the Planning & Scheduling process during the
construction phase of a project. These are simple yet powerful
practices which can be easily integrated into the overall project
controls effort. This integration is not just theoretical and was used
in this case study to demonstrate its effectiveness. This method is
easily adapted to leverage information from the Look-Ahead Schedule and
feeds that information into different project controls functions like
tracking progress, tracking impacts or slippages, logic revisions, and
schedule updates. The results of this case study reveal several benefits
of this method including improved accuracy of construction schedules,
feedback to schedule planners, and timely identification of any
potential issues.
