About the AACE Power Forum

The AACE Power Forum is a thought leadership community dedicated to AACE members who are active in the power sector. It will serve as a think tank and a gathering place for cost engineering and project controls professionals within the power sector, to work together to address common challenges, share experiences, solutions, resources, lessons learned, and gain additional insights from experts in the field.

The AACE Power Forum will hold quarterly meetings (3 virtual meetings during the span of the year and one in-person meeting at the AACE Conference & Expo). Each meeting will feature a topic led by a power agency and will tackle issues that are most relevant to the power sector.

About this session’s topic
As goals for carbon neutrality and the ever-increasing demand for energy compel governments to invest in clean energy infrastructure, the nuclear industry is experiencing a global renaissance. This resurgence is marked by significant new investments in extensive capital refurbishment programs, which are focused on extending the life of existing facilities. Additionally, there are initiatives for constructing new projects, both in traditional and innovative small modular and other advanced nuclear reactors. These projects must be evaluated, sanctioned, and delivered against targets for cost, schedule, risk, and quality which have the utmost certainty and validity possible to guarantee return on investment and benefit to the public is achieved. To support this, objective, AACE recently issued a new recommended practice specifically geared towards estimate classification for the nuclear industry.

This presentation will share details of this new Recommended Practice covering information which provides details for:

  • Why it was written
  • How it is structured
  • What it is and what it is not

During the presentation, we will highlight differences from Recommended Practice 18R-97, Cost Estimate Classification System, as Applied in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction for the Process Industries and discuss the various specific use cases for this RP.
