MDS in Children: What Parents Need to Know

During this program, recorded on November 21, 2013, Dr. Hofmann explains the similarities and differences related to the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of children as compared to adults with MDS. Though myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) occurs mainly in adults, it can occur in children. Pediatric MDS disease progression, prognosis, and outcomes are different for each child. How are these younger patients diagnosed and treated? The factors that influence specific treatment decisions are also discussed. The session ends with a brief discussion of the MDS Pediatric Registry and pediatric treatment options that are in development and may be available in the future.
