Untangling and Resolving Coding Edits

Description

Overview:
The National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits and Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs) can be difficult and time-consuming to resolve. It is often unclear where to find information and who is going to research the edits to determine whether a modifier is appropriate or if an unbundling situation is present. Without understanding the edits and how to resolve them appropriately, efforts may be duplicated, and revenue may be lost. This 90-minute webinar will address these concerns and provide examples and strategies to mitigate the edits.

Learning Objectives

1. Review the NCCI policy manual and define CCI edits, use of modifiers and the effects of processes and operations.
2. Explain how and why MUEs were created and proper application of MUEs based on real-life examples.
3. Define add-on codes, their applicability and resolutions.
4. Discuss best practices for responding to edits based on prebilling strategies, including all costs for the services provided, appealing MUE determinations and submissions for requesting changes to the NCCI edits and instructions.
