This 60-minute webinar will provide participants with an update and review of the management of severe head and neck infections using a case-based format. The principles of surgical and antibiotic management of maxillofacial infection will be integrated into the series of case presentations, ranging from odontogenic vestibular space abscess to necrotizing fasciitis and invasive streptococcal infections.
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Recognize the clinical presentation of severe head and neck infections, including deep fascial space infections, mediastinitis, cavernous sinus thrombosis and invasive streptococcal infections.
- Select appropriate empiric antibiotic therapy and promptly deescalate broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy, as appropriate, once culture and sensitivity results become available.
- Perform prompt and aggressive surgery to establish airway security and drain all anatomic sites affected by cellulitis or abscess.
