MARCH 4, 2022: Who is Afraid of Lewis Carroll?



Course Description
Charles Dodgson [1832 – 1898] was better known by his pen name Lewis Carroll. He is famous for his book “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, as well as the sequel “Through the Looking Glass”. He was a Don at Oxford. The Dean of Christ Church, Oxford, Henry Liddell, was his good friend and had a daughter Catherine Alice. Charles Dodgson was completely infatuated by Alice, and she is widely identified as Alice in “Alice in Wonderland”. Charles Dodgson had a hobby of photography where he photographed young girls [mostly peripubertal], including naked pictures. It is speculated that he had an erotic interest in young girls although there has never been any evidence that he sexually touched any young females. Was Charles Dodgson the forerunner of what we know today as individuals engaged in possession of child pornography? A discussion of child pornography from a scientific standpoint will be covered in the lecture.
