Patrick J. Tighe, MD MS
Patrick Tighe MD MS is an associate professor of Anesthesiology, Orthopedics, and Information Systems/Operations Management at the University of Florida, and serves as the associate dean for AI Applications and Innovations in the College of Medicine. He is supported by the Donn M. Dennis MD Professorship in Anesthetic Innovation. Clinically, Dr. Tighe serves in the Division of Acute and Perioperative Pain Medicine. His research activities, supported by NINDS and NIA, use artificial intelligence to better understand how perioperative factors influence postoperative outcomes, with special attention to pain, cognition, and social determinants of health.

Hassan Rayaz MD
Dr. Rayaz is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His area of clinical expertise is acute pain management, enhanced recovery after surgery and regional anesthesiology. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, his MD from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and stayed on to complete his residency in anesthesiology. He completed his fellowship in Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain at Yale University. Dr. Rayaz is a member of the 2022 Planning Committee.

Ellen Soffin MD
Dr. Soffin is an anesthesiologist and clinical researcher at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY. She completed her residency training in anesthesiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She then came to Hospital for Special Surgery as a fellow in Regional Anesthesiology & Acute Pain Medicine, and was invited to join the faculty on completion of her fellowship. Prior to her residency in the U.S., Dr. Soffin earned her MD/PhD in the United Kingdom at King’s College London and Edinburgh University and established a program of research in neuroscience drug discovery at GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Soffin’s clinical interests include anesthesia for complex spine surgery, with a particular emphasis on pre- and intra-operative strategies to improve pain after surgery. She is a member of the department’s dedicated spine team. Dr. Soffin will continue to direct research protocols that she established as a fellow at HSS, which includes the link between obstructive sleep apnea and brain inflammation and the role of anti-convulsant medications in improving pain after spine surgery.

Marie N. Hanna, MD MEHP
Dr. Hanna is an associate professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Hanna specializes in obstetric anesthesia, as well as regional and acute pain management. She serves as the director of the Acute Pain Service and the chief of the Division of Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Management. She earned her medical degree at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. She completed anesthesiology residencies at both the Loyola University School of Medicine and Cairo’s Coptic Hospital. She also completed an internal medicine internship at Metro West Medical Center in Framingham, Massachusetts, and served as a research assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Hanna is the current Co-Chair of the 2022 Planning Committee.
