Beth Darnall PhD
Dr. Darnall is Director of the Stanford Pain Relief Innovations Lab. She leads NIH and PCORI-funded clinical trials that broadly investigate behavioral medicine for acute and chronic pain. She serves as faculty mentor. Her primary interests are developing and investigating novel pain treatments that are scalable, effective, and low burden. Darnall graduated from Texas Woman’s University with a B.A. in mass communications. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in rehabilitation medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Darnall is the current Co-Chair of the 2022 Planning Committee.

Christine Rini, MD, PhD
Dr. Rini is is a Professor in the Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University. She is also Program Leader of Cancer Control and Survivorship and Director of the Cancer Survivorship Institute at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. Dr. Rini is social/health psychologist who conducts research to understand factors influencing patients’ behavioral and psychosocial responses to health-related challenges, especially those related to cancer and chronic conditions. Her research is enriched by specific training in research methods and theories, measurement and psychometrics, statistical techniques, and the conduct of randomized controlled trials. She is currently a member of the NIH Biobehavioral Medicine and Health Outcomes (BMHO) study section, and she is a Fellow of the Society of Behavioral Medicine and the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research in addition to being a member of the Editorial Board for the Annals of Behavioral Medicine and an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Behavioral Medicine. Dr. Rini earned her MA and PhD at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Brennan Spiegel, MD MSHS
Dr. Spiegel is the Director of Health Services Research for Cedars-Sinai Health System and Director of the Cedars-Sinai Master’s Degree Program in Health Delivery Science. Dr. Spiegel directs a multidisciplinary team that investigates how digital health technologies, including wearable biosensors, smartphone applications, virtual reality, and social media, can improve people’s lives. His team developed among the largest and most widely-documented medical virtual reality pain management programs in the world at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Spiegel has published numerous best-selling medical textbooks, editorials, and more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
