in 3 Americans have some type of criminal record, and there are more than
46,000 collateral consequences that impact people with conviction histories
that create hurdles to certain career paths. Additionally, many people who
have criminal histories find themselves stripped of certain rights and locked
out of opportunities for housing, education, employment, social services, and
other necessities. The Clean Slate Initiative is a movement to empower states
to automate the complex and challenging record clearing process for those
individuals eligible for expungement under current state law. During this
