LARC and Contraceptive Dual Use

"CME and CEU credits are offered for ACOG live broadcasts only.”

Course Description
Contraceptive dual use (the use of condoms in conjunction with other contraceptive methods) is known to help prevent unintended pregnancy and protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). However, research has shown an inverse relationship between the use of hormonal contraception, including LARC, and condom use, leading to increased risk for STIs and unplanned pregnancies. This webinar presented by Jamila Perritt, MD, MPH, FACOG will review what contraceptive dual use is, the observed effect of hormonal contraception use on condom use, and ways providers can implement best practices in regards to contraception and STI prevention and screening. This free LARC and the OPA Contraceptive Care Measures webinar from the ACOG LARC Program has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe contraceptive dual use and its importance
  • Describe the role of health care providers in explaining the importance of contraceptive dual use to patients
  • Describe health care provider best practices concerning contraceptive dual use, including appropriate STI screening measures prior to initiation of LARC device usage
