Description
The Compassionate Conversations series is aimed at highlighting effective techniques and answering questions on having sensitive conversations around difficult topics. For our ninth virtual conversation in this series, we will be focusing on patient-centered discussions regarding maternal mental health and how health care professionals in obstetrics and gynecology can support their patients.
The Maternal and Child Health Bureau describes maternal mental health as the mental, emotional and social well-being of a person during their pregnancy and the one-year postpartum period. This can show up in a variety of conditions, most commonly depression and anxiety. It is estimated that 1 in 5 people in their pregnancy or postpartum period develop a mental health condition. These conditions can impact how one connects with their child, family, and others in daily life. It is important that patients and health care providers feel comfortable talking about the feelings patients are experiencing so that they can access resources and treatment. For each individual that conversation might look different touching on topics such as support networks, therapy, medication and other treatment methods. In this webinar, we hope to provide ob-gyn health care professionals with the tools to be confident in discussing stillbirth in a sensitive and respectful manner.
For the first time ever, we will be diving deeper into the topic of maternal mental health with three Compassionate Conversations podcasts! For more information, please see our Compassionate Conversations webpage.
