Flip the Classroom With Team-based Learning

Description

Dental educators are often instructed to move away from “sage on the stage” models of education and into a “guide on the side” approach. In other words, they are encouraged to create learning environments that are driven by students with professors acting as facilitators. However, getting to that point is often quite difficult. Most dental educators were taught through lectures, and have little experience in active-learning environments.

Join us in this free webinar as we examine a specific active-learning and flipped-classroom model of education known as “team-based learning” or TBL. Dr. Jan Mitchell, who is accredited by the Team-Based Learning Collaborative, will provide an overview of TBL along with an example of how to convert existing lectures into interactive pre-class tutorials.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain basic educational concepts behind techniques of active learning and the flipped classroom, particularly focusing on the team-based learning technique.
  2. Describe techniques for redesigning course modules as an active-learning session that promotes critical thinking.
  3. Explain how an existing lecture can be converted into an interactive tutorial for pre-class study.
