  • Cynthia J. Metz, Ph.D.

    Dr. Cynthia J. Metz serves as the Course Director for the University of Louisville School of Dentistry’s Physiology Course. Her research activities focus on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. In particular, she is interested in the integration of active learning and technology into the classroom, and the impact of these methods on student performance and motivation. She also mentors graduate students who are interested in pursuing teaching careers. Dr. Metz serves on the School of Dentistry’s Curriculum Committee. She is also involved in the Department of Physiology Graduate Admissions Committee and acts as the Associate Chair of Education. She recently served on the National Board Dental Test Construction Committee of the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations and as Secretary of the Teaching Section of the American Physiological Society.

  • Michael J. Metz, D.M.D., M.S.D., M.S., Ph.D.

    Dr. Michael Metz joined the faculty at University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 2010 where he taught all aspects of general dentistry. His primary focus was in direct restorative dentistry and disease prevention. Dr Metz serves as the chairman for the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry. He is currently a candidate completing his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development through the University of Louisville College of Education with a concentration of Evaluation. His area of research is in student assessment, student self-assessment, faculty calibration and active learning techniques.
