I Take the Yellow Pill in the Morning! Promoting Self-Management in the Older Adults with Low Vision

The aging of baby boomers means that within just a couple decades, older people are projected to outnumber children for the first time in U.S. history, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. By 2034, there will be 77.0 million people 65 years and older. Many will have chronic health conditions such as low vision. Helping our aging population learn self-management strategies will help promote improved health and ability to age in place. This lecture will guide those providing services to older adults with vision loss in assessment and teaching of self-management.

Participants will:
1. Identify critical areas of self-management
2. Identify assessment tools and adaptive strategies to facilitate self-management
3. Identify ways to promote health literacy and healthy behaviors
