Overview

This internet based enduring interactive emodule focuses on care information for patients with neurocognitive and disabilities. Case study examples will include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Angelman Syndrome, and Dravet Syndrome. Challenges can arise in providing comprehensive care for persons with intractable epilepsy, particularly among patients with neurocognitive disabilities. This course presents the latest research and novel approaches that address quality of life and care for patients with neurodevelopmental disabilities, and integrates examples of an interprofessional approach for care.

This panel discussion covers:
1.Plan of care approach for in-patient and electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring planning that highlights success and safety for patients with neurodevelopmental disabilities
2.Care for adolescent/young adults with neurocognitive disabilities who are transitioning to adults
3.New psychiatric interventions for patients with epilepsy
4.Ethical and legal considerations for persons with epilepsy and neurocognitive conditions Program

Learning Objectives
Following participation in this activity, participants will be able to:
1.Develop an understanding of behavioral interventions and implementation of care, to support a successful stay in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
2.Identify the critical factors of care in the transition process into adult care in the context of neurocognitive/neurodevelopmental delays
3.Interpret the role of psychotropic medications to address psychiatric comorbidities in persons in epilepsy
4.Develop an understanding of ethical and legal considerations for persons with epilepsy and neurocognitive comorbidities
