The inter-connectivity of consumer electronic devices has created an explosion of new ways for users to interface with them. Many of these include unique icons and graphical user interfaces. With software becoming harder to protect with utility patents, creators of these new designs are increasingly looking to design patent and copyright to protect them in the US and abroad, and design patents might also prove helpful to protect product designs against infringement in the digital landscape.
