A drug 100 times stronger than fentanyl has made its way into our
Nation’s jails and has been linked to many fatal overdoses. The
emergence of Carfentanil—a potent opioid used as an elephant
tranquilizer—comes along as the Nation grapples with a devastating
opioid crisis. Carfentanil is 10,000 times more potent than morphine and
isn't only dangerous for drug users—it also threatens the people trying
to save their lives.
It presents a serious risk to public safety, first responders, jail officers, and medical personnel because it can be absorbed through the skin, or accidentally inhaled. “Only a few granules of the substance, the size of table salt, can be deadly”, Time Magazine reports.
In this webinar, AJA will cover:
• Officer exposure to Carfentanil.
• Transdermal effects of Carfentanil.
• Protective gear in drug handling.
• How to implement a naloxone program in your agency.
• And more!
