Description

The clinical use of multiplex PCR platforms, like the BioFire® FilmArray® Pneumonia (PN) Panel, in CAP patients dramatically increases the frequency of detection of potential viral and bacterial pathogens. The companion use of biomarkers, like VIDAS® BRAHMS PCT™, to measure serum procalcitonin levels helps adjudicate whether the detected potential pathogens are colonizing or invading. The combination of enhanced pathogen detection and PCT levels supports antibiotic stewardship activities.
