Description

This presentation will review the biology of pain in the human body, history of pain management and available pain management options along with how each one affects the human body differently. I will also discuss the pharmacology of opioids and warning signs in patients that may be seeking opioids. The effects of an opioid addiction will also be discussed.

Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to: 1) apply the four P’s of pain management: Prevention, Psychological, Physical and Pharmaceutical; 2) describe the pain mechanism; and 3) discuss how different medications work and how to rarely, if ever, use opioids.
