Description

When Courts reopen in a Post-Pandemic environment, changes to managing the court calls, staffing, and general operations of the court system will be dramatically changed. Through this course, we will explore options to safely reopen the court system and how changes can be implemented. This course will include discussions on remote hearings, how to submit exhibits, safety of Jurors, physical protective measures for patrons and court employees, the scheduling of court and the return to work of court staff.  
Learning Objectives
As a result of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify areas of concern post-pandemic
  • Prepare a plan for safe jury trials
  • Implement remote communications for hearings
  • Safely re-open the Circuit Court Clerk's office and public areas of the court.

    Tammy’s career began nearly 23 years ago in the Rock Island County Circuit Clerk’s Office. She was appointed clerk of the circuit court in 2015 and elected in 2016. During her career, the clerk’s office has gone through an amazing transformation. From moving into a new Courthouse, converting all paper records to an electronic format, assisting the court with managing their cases electronically and reducing barriers for self-represented litigants, the clerk’s office is now mostly entirely paperless. Tammy was appointed to the Access to Justice Commission, Supreme Court Public Relations Task Force, Remote Access Policy Implementation subcommittee and workgroup for Re: SearchIL, serves as President of Zone 5 of the Illinois Association of Court clerks and Co-Chair of the Supreme Court’s COVID-19 Task Force Subcommittee.

  • James "Dan" Wallis

    Trial Court Administrator, 22nd Judicial Circuit, McHenry County Illinois

    Dan became the trial court administrator for the 22nd Circuit of McHenry County, Illinois in December, 2008.  As court administrator Dan is responsible for all aspects of the court’s operation including strategic planning, caseflow management, court performance, budget, personnel, technology, special projects, grant writing and access to justice programs. Prior to becoming a court administrator in the 22nd Circuit, Dan served the Morrow County Courts in Ohio for nearly 10 years and worked as an Adult Intensive Probation Officer, Coordinator for the Morrow County Substance Abuse Court, Director of Court Support Services and Court Administrator.

    Dan was the first Chair of the Supreme Court of Illinois Judicial College, Trial Court Administrator Education Committee, and was appointed to the position July 1, 2017 by the Supreme Court of Illinois upon the recommendation of the Illinois Judicial College Board of Trustees.
