Course Description
On a typical day in the United States, police officers
make more than 50,000 traffic stops. A 2020 study undertaken by the
Stanford Open Policing Project found significant racial disparities in traffic
stops across the United States. This course will explore the intersection
between race and traffic stops and discuss policies and practices to mitigate
these disparities. Best practices for navigating media coverage in high profile
cases will also be discussed.

- Issue rulings and make findings mindful of implicit biases and procedural fairness.
- Describe best practices for handling media coverage issues that may arise in court.
