 Part 1- Classification of Dog Aggression:
Aggression cases make up the vast majority of our private consultation cases here at Peaceable Paws. In this first in a series of three eLearning events we will look at the causes and classifications of various types of aggression. We will examine the differences and similarities of various manifestations of aggression, how to recognize what you are dealing with, and advice on how to proceed. Learn how to help clients understand that it is *rarely* about dominance, and almost *always* about stress.

  • Review various forms and causes of canine aggression
  • Examine ways to prevent canine aggression

Part 2: Understanding Dog Aggression Treatment Protocols, Safe, Effective Canine Aggression Modifications
This second in a series of three eLearning events picks up where part one left off. We will compare and contrast various aggression treatment protocols, including maintenance, counter conditioning, desensitization, CAT (Constructional Aggression Treatment), and BAT (Behavior Adjustment Training) as tools to modify aggressive behavior.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees of this course will:
  • Evaluate various modification protocols for dealing with canine aggression
  • Identify the most effective protocols for treatment

It is assumed that attendees of this event:
  • Have limited familiarity with various dog aggression treatment protocols
OR
  • Are familiar with, but are looking for a clear review of, various dog aggression treatment protocols

Part 3: Application of Dog Aggression Treatment Protocols 
In this third and final eLearning event in a series of three, we will conclude our discussion by reviewing some actual cases as the backdrop for sharing my protocol for identifying stressors and creating realistic behavior modification protocols that clients can successfully implement.

  • Identify one’s own strengths and weaknesses as a canine professional

  • Are interested in learning how Pat Miller has handled her past dog aggression cases.
Presenter:
Pat Miller is a CBCC-KA, CPDT-KA, past president of APDT and past board member of CCPDT. Miller worked at the Marin Humane Society in Novato, California from 1976 to 1996, in customer service, as a humane officer, Customer Service Supervisor, Field Supervisor, and for the final ten years as Director of Operations. During this time, she obtained an Associate Degree in Administration of Justice and a BS in Business Administration. In 1996 Miller left the Humane Society to launch Peaceable Paws in Monterey, California. Miller now offers group good manners classes, private training and behavior modification services, dog training workshops and trainer academies at her Peaceable Paws 80-acre facility in Fairplay, Maryland. In addition, Miller presents seminars around. She has authored seven books on dog behavior and training, most recently “Beware of the Dog,” on canine aggression Miller is training editor for The Whole Dog Journal, and n May of 2015 was named by Dog Fancy Magazine as one of 45 people who changed the dog world.
