DESCRIPTION
Information governance programs rely on two closely related—but not identical—foundations: information architecture (how information is organized so it can be found, understood, and used) and information infrastructure & technology (the platforms, storage, integrations, and controls that make that architecture operational and secure). In this session, you’ll unpack how these concepts differ, where they overlap, and why getting the distinction right improves governance outcomes—especially when you’re designing for compliance, access, and long-term sustainability.
You’ll leave with practical ways to evaluate your current state, clarify responsibilities across IG/IT/RIM stakeholders, and identify the key building blocks needed to strengthen your organization’s information foundation.
Learning Objectives
Upon completing this session, attendees should be able to:
- Differentiate information architecture from information infrastructure & technology in an IG context.
- Explain how architecture and infrastructure each support governance outcomes such as compliance, access, and usability.
- Identify key overlap areas (e.g., controls, platforms, structure, lifecycle considerations) that require coordination between IG and IT stakeholders.
- List key considerations for building a stronger information foundation that improves access and defensibility.
