Seeking the Core: The Development of the Core Works

The Core Works Bibliography for the Records and Information Management (RIM) Profession is a critically developed bibliography providing key resources that cater to the theory and practice of the industry. The methodology involved a thorough literature review, which included a survey of graduate-level course syllabi, a review of bibliographies published by various organizations, and collecting citation information from databases and indices. The final list, meticulously trimmed down, includes 343 important literary sources.

The selection of core works was initially planned to be done by the ARMA Company of Fellows using the Delphi method, but on facing concerns and questions, a group of RIM professional experts were brought in to identify and rank the top resources. This process resulted in the recognition of 50 core works, which include 48 resources voted by the expert panel and two additional publications.

The Core Works Bibliography is a foundation for the RIM community to take charge in creating a comprehensive knowledge base for RIM professionals.
