As medicine in the United States moves from fee for service to value based purchasing, laboratories are at risk of being viewed as a commodity service and vulnerable to outsourcing. One strategy, to reestablish the critical role of the laboratory and to shift the focus of our efforts from efficient laboratory operations to the contributions our laboratory data can make to the total cost of care.

  2. Discuss the policy push towards to Value Based Purchasing.
  3. Discuss the role of informatics will play in the Lab 2.0.
