This course includes some of the most common drugs of abuse, the effects of these drugs on the anatomy and physiology of the brain and body and how these drug-induced changes affect both behaviors and emotions. This course also includes an overview of the GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry) and the Syva Emit Immunoassay Systems, including the methodology and principles of instrumentation, quality assurance and quality control, and toxicology laboratory guidelines. After the completion of this course, participants should be able to understand how two of the most common toxicology systems function, how to correctly follow a chain of custody procedure, the interaction between drug abuse and AIDS, along with treatment methods and trends, and have an understanding of the physical and neurological reality of drug use.
