Hemoglobin A1c: Clinical Laboratory Utilization for Diabetes Mellitus Testing

This self-study course was designed to provide a brief background on the theory of HbA1c, its utility in the clinical laboratory, the evolution of the test, and its role in patient diagnosis. It also compares the HbA1c test with the two other diabetes mellitus diagnostic assays: the fasting blood glucose and the oral glucose tolerance test. The course concludes with case studies to demonstrate the clinical application of the HbA1c test.
