Understanding Molecular Pathology: Methods and Applications

Pathology is the study and diagnosis of disease by the examination of body fluids, cells, tissues, and organs using various laboratory methods. Since the early 1980s, these methods have included the tools of molecular biology, allowing the investigation of nucleic acids. The new subspecialty based on nucleic acid testing, molecular pathology, reaches into every section of the laboratory and every field of medicine. In fact, molecular diagnostics increasingly provides information not obtainable by other means.

This course will present an overview and understanding of the methods and applications used in molecular pathology.
