Description
We will cover flap design and mechanics for advancement, rotation, transposition and interpolated flaps. Flap movement and tension vectors in relation to anatomical and free margin consideration to optimize functional and cosmetic outcomes will be discussed, as well as a review of anatomical/functional considerations for the different cosmetic subunits and formulate reconstruction options for different defects.

Learning Objectives
Following this activity, participants should be able to:

Identify types of flaps including advancement, rotation, transposition and interpolated.

Apply the mechanics of flap movement to design flaps with optimal function and cosmetic outcome.

List options of flaps for different defects.

Ashley Decker, MD

Dr. Decker is a board-certified dermatologist and is currently practicing at Cooper University Hospital in New Jersey. She also serves as an Assistant Professor at Cooper Medical School.
Rajiv Nijhawan, MD

Dr. Nijhawan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center. He serves as the Assistant Fellowship Director of the Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology Fellowship Program and is also the Director of the UTSW High Risk Skin Cancer Transplant Clinic.
