Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including those caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis, Treponema pallidum and HIV are leading causes of morbidity worldwide. Despite advances in the ability to diagnose and manage HIV infection, there has been resurgence in the number of cases of other STIs. In addition, the incidence of antimicrobial resistance among pathogens associated with STIs has increased, which has created significant challenges in the ability to successfully treat infected individuals. This webinar series will provide an overview of the recent advances that have been made in the diagnosis and management of STIs, with a focus on emerging STI threats, including Mycoplasma genitalium and the rise in antimicrobial resistance among STIs. New technologies that have been developed to target STIs will be introduced, and overviews of new and updated diagnostic algorithms will be discussed.
