Regulatory, Medical Legal and Reimbursement Considerations for AI Tools in Clinical Practice

Description & Learning Objectives
Presented by the ASNR AI Committee.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will gain strategies to:
-Describe FDA clearance pathways that govern AI-enabled imaging software, including indications for use & oversight of algorithm changes after market entry.
-Identify sources of liability associated with clinical AI use, including evolving SOC, responsibility allocation among vendors, institutions, & interpreting physicians, & medical record documentation of AI outputs.
-Recognize how bias enters AI models through training data and validation design & describe methods for reducing bias, assessing performance across patient populations & monitoring for drift after deployment.
-Discuss privacy obligations surrounding AI tools, including HIPAA considerations, de-identification standards, & patient data use for model training.
-Explain current reimbursement pathways for imaging AI tools, including CPT coding categories, add-on payment mechanisms, payer coverage variability, & return on investment.
