ASNR23: The Changing Neuroradiology Practice: Opportunities and Challenges

ASNR23: The Changing Neuroradiology Practice: Opportunities and Challenges

Description & Learning Objectives
The structure and organization of the neuroradiology work environment is changing. Although many workplace adaptations are in direct response to economic conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic, burnout among healthcare workers and the needs of an increasingly diverse and complex patient population have also played a role. This session will address opportunities and challenges presented by neuroradiology practice changes, emphasizing shifts to hybrid workforce models in both private practice and academic (i.e., combination of on-site and remote) and associated implications for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Specific topics will include a leadership overview of the evolving neuroradiology workforce, a case study in hybrid neuroradiology and how it works, a discussion of medical education and radiology training in the hybrid environment, and consideration of challenges, pitfalls, and concerns. The session will conclude with a panel discussion, including interactive audience Q&A.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will gain strategies to:
-Characterize the driving factors behind changes in neuroradiology practice that have led the field to explore and embrace a hybrid workforce model (i.e., combination of on-site and remote work).
-Summarize guiding principles for the successful implementation of a hybrid workforce model in real-world private and academic radiology practices.
-Discuss implications for medical education and training of radiology residents and fellows.
-Identify challenges and pitfalls in the successful and equitable implementation of a hybrid workforce model.
Instructions for Participation
