  • Dr. Norbert Meyendorf

    Dr. Norbert Meyendorf retired in 2018 as deputy director of CNDE (Center for Nondestructive Evaluation) at Iowa State University in Ames. He continues as adjunct faculty at the University of Dayton and the University of Technology in Dresden. His expertise ranges from materials science, image and data processing, to NDE and structural health monitoring (SHM).

    Between 2004 and 2013, he was director of the Dresden Branch of the Fraunhofer Institute for Nondestructive Testing IZFP (Germany) until the integration into the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS). He was the initiator and chair of two committees of experts of the German Society for Nondestructive Testing (DGZfP): the Committee for Materials Characterization and the Committee for Condition Monitoring. He is a fellow of SPIE (Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers) where he was two times chair or co-chair of the Symposium Smart Structures and NDE and initiator and chair of several conferences within the symposium.

    Dr. Meyendorf is editor in chief of the Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation and Editor of the Handbook of Advanced Nondestructive Evaluation published by Springer. At present, he edits the Handbook of NDE 4.0 jointly with three colleagues. This book will be published in early 2021.
