Iikka Virkkunen received his doctorate from Helsinki University of Technology (now part of Aalto University) on 2001. He founded Trueflaw Ltd. the same year, and has over 20 years of experience in working with NDT reliability. Trueflaw started out making cracks and cracked samples for NDT training and performance demonstration. Now the services include probability of detection (POD) services and development of automated flaw detection systems with machine learning (ML). At the same time, Virkkunen continued his academic contributions. He was nominated docent of Aalto University in 2007 and in 2015 was nominated Adjunct Professor. His research topics include NDT reliability, materials degradation, fatigue, and residual stress measurements.
