Welcome to the world of nondestructive
testing! NDT inspectors, managers, engineers,
and researchers work diligently around the clock to ensure the integrity and
reliability of structures ranging from airplanes to bridges, oil pipelines to
wind turbines, and amusement park rides to spacecraft, among many other
applications. Multiple methods and techniques are used to locate
performance-degrading conditions such as cracking, porosity and voids,
inclusions, disbonds in composites, and discontinuities in welds—all without
impairing the part’s usefulness in any way.
Course objectives: By the end of this e-course, you should
be able to provide an overview of nondestructive testing, including the importance
of NDT in modern life, industries where NDT is applied, the role of ethics in
the practice of NDT, the qualification and certification process for NDT
professionals, features and principles of 16 different NDT methods, and career
and educational opportunities in NDT, among other topics.
Target
learners: The course is designed to address the needs
of trainees who are brand-new to the field of NDT and members of the general
public who wish to learn how NDT works behind the scenes to make products safe
for human use and consumption. Seasoned NDT technicians desiring a quick refresher
of all things NDT may also benefit.
Course
navigation: The modules
may be taken in any order. Checkmarks in the course menu let you keep
track of
completed modules. No partial credit is given for participation. There
is no
time limit for completing the course modules, quizzes, and activities.
However, the estimated maximum course completion time is three hours.
Credit: 3.0
contact hours. View all videos and complete all activities for
full credit. Contact hours may be applied toward 0.3 CEU or 0.75 certification
renewal point with ASNT's recertification system (4 contact hours = 1 point
under Category B).
Note: Your total time spent in the e-course is
monitored and recorded by ASNT Learn administrators. If it is determined
by the Certification Department that insufficient time was spent to be
able to view all videos and complete all activities and quizzes, your
certificate may be revoked. It is understood that your contact time may
vary depending on your prior knowledge of the subject, reading speed,
and other factors. The 3.0 contact hours is an estimated maximum time
for completing the course.
