05/23/24 ASRT Live: Dense Breasts, Supplemental Screening and New MQSA Reporting Requirements - 1 CE Credit

Description

This presentation will cover what dense breasts are and why breast density matters. We will review topics such as breast density by age, breast density categories, what to know about mammograms and dense breasts, what to know about cancers in dense breasts, the new FDA dense breast reporting standard for both patients and referring providers, and a roundup of educational tools available on the medically-sourced website DenseBreast-info.org. Supplemental imaging modalities, including mammography, sonography and magnetic resonance imaging, will also be discussed. Finally, we will conclude the presentation with other MQSA change compliance information, which includes information on BIRADS, final assessment, records transfer and artificial intelligence.

JoAnn Pushkin, executive director, DenseBreast-info.org, has authored and coauthored educational courses, articles and grants, and speaks on the topic of breast density and inform efforts. She learned of her own breast density's masking effect on her mammogram after finding a palpable lump that went undetected by mammography several years in a row. Ms. Pushkin's initiative and advocacy served as inspiration for New York’s Breast Density Inform Bill, signed into law in July 2012. On the federal level, Ms. Pushkin led the efforts for both the introduction of the Federal Breast Density and Mammography Reporting Act, as well as the FDA’s Mammography Quality Standards Act regulatory amendment consideration, on whose behalf she was invited to testify.

  • Robin Seitzman

Robin Seitzman, Ph.D, M.P.H., serves as director of education and epidemiology research for DenseBreast-info.org. An epidemiologist and independent consultant, she has over 20 years of experience in the design, conduct and analysis of epidemiological research spanning both the private and public sectors. She conducts research, speaks and develops educational tools on the implications of dense breast tissue on breast cancer risk and screening.
