Overview
Armed with a love of literacy and AAC, a special education teacher and SLP, created literacy based, multisensory experiences unlike any other - an opportunity for students to walk through the pages of a story book. Each storybook walk included learning opportunities focusing on literacy and communication skills through the incorporation of emergent literacy strategies and various types of AAC. Throughout this session, necessary components and steps to recreate a storybook walk at your site will be shared, including possible AAC materials, visual supports, and a framework to guide you through planning and implementation.

- Describe at least three multi-sensory elements that could be included within a storybook walk.
- Discuss three or more different AAC opportunities that can be incorporated into a storybook walk.

Biography
Megan Stewart, MS CCC-SLP is a Speech/Language Pathologist with 18 years of experience, most of which have been spent serving students with complex communication needs, within a variety of settings, including early intervention, home health, hippotherapy, and elementary school level. Megan received her Masters degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and now resides in Jacksonville, FL. With extensive knowledge regarding various forms of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) from low to high tech, Megan's passion is to help guide students, parents and professionals alike in their journey to find the AAC system(s) that will help them become the most independent and autonomous communicators possible. Megan currently works at Oak Hill Academy, a one of a kind, public, center school in the Duval County Public School System, serving students with Autism and related disabilities.

Jennifer Zeveney

Biography
Jennifer Zeveney is a Communication Social Skills/ESE Site Coach at Oak Hill Academy, a center school for students with ASD and related disabilities, within the Duval County Public Schools, in Jacksonville, Florida. Jennifer graduated from Moore College of Art and Design, Philadelphia, PA in 1993 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a minor in Art Education. Over her 28 years in education, she has taught in art, general education, inclusion, and self-contained classrooms. Over her extensive teaching experience, she has nurtured and developed an educational philosophy comprised of best instructional practices, appropriate supports, data driven instruction, highly effective collaboration, out-of-the box thinking, and supportive, safe, and highly motivating learning environments. Her commitment to inspiring and supporting her fellow teachers is evident in the professional development sessions she has assisted the leadership team in planning, as well as the classroom visits and support she provides on a daily basis. Jennifer lives in St. Augustine, Florida with her husband and five children.
