V-AAC-31: It's Not Push-In vs. Pull Out: Maximizing the Continuum of Service Delivery

Overview

In our school district, faced with barriers to including effective collaboration as part of our service delivery, we wondered if we could develop a service delivery model that would better meet AAC users needs. Frustrated by the status quo, our district team worked together to research best practices and develop a solution. Join us as we describe steps in our process, including review of evidence, conversations with stakeholders, and selection of tools, resources, and strategies. We will examine qualitative data and discuss the results. Finally, we will reflect and explore areas for growth in our quest to continually enhance services for AAC users.

Session Content Disclosure: This course focuses on a case study conducted by the Warren County Board of Education and Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC) and there will be little or no reference to similar case studies.

  2. Describe one or more ways to adapt service delivery models to enhance support of AAC use.
  3. Discuss at least three resources to utilize with students and team members when implementing a hybrid service delivery model.

Warren County Board of Education, Exceptional Ed. Technology Specialist

Biography

Danna Frank, MS, CCC-SLP, is the Exceptional Education Technology Specialist for Warren County Public Schools in Bowling Green, KY. She is also a part-time clinical supervisor for Western Kentucky University's Communication Disorders clinic where she supervises undergraduate and graduate students providing therapeutic services to pediatric and adult clients. She earned both her Bachelors and Masters of Science in Communication Disorders from Western Kentucky University. She is a member of both ASHA and KSHA. She has more than 22 years experience in the field of speech-language pathology, focusing the last 12 years of her career consulting with other SLPs, employees and parents to meet the augmentative and assistive technology needs of public school students.

Lauren Budziak

Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC), Assistive Technology & Communication Disorders Consultant

Biography

Lauren Budziak, M.A.,CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist who currently serves as the Assistive Technology and Communication Disorders Consultant for the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC), located in Bowling Green, Kentucky. In this role, she provides coaching, consultation, and training for SLPs, teachers, and school teams in 34 school districts across central Kentucky. Prior to coming to GRREC, Lauren practiced in the public school setting in Kentucky and Ohio, working with students in preschool through grade 12. While she enjoys all areas of speech-language therapy practice, Lauren's areas of interest include AAC, educational technology as it relates to speech & language practice, workload and caseload management, and literacy. Lauren is a graduate of The University of Dayton and The Ohio State University.
