Overview
The non-profit Camp REACH and the UNCG Speech and Hearing Center determined a need for social engagement opportunities for teenagers with complex communication needs, SGD practice, and a flexible service delivery model to reach individuals with ongoing health concerns related to the pandemic. A book club with 6 virtual sessions, two in person social opportunities, and at home carryover reading activities was planned. Upon completion of the first book club, clinicians, therapists, parents and participants discussed and reviewed the experience and all reported an increase in engagement, SGD use and enjoyment with reading.
