V-AAC-25: Help Me Help You! Combining Coaching and Episodic Care for Sustainable Outcomes

Overview

In this interactive session, participants will learn about the evidence supporting coaching and leave with practical tools that can be used immediately! Across the literature, several elements of coaching are consistently highlighted: joint planning, observation, action/reflection, and feedback. Phases of the coaching cycle will be discussed as a method of caregiver instruction and collaboration. The presenters will provide instruction in solution-focused principles within an episodic care model for increasing caregiver buy-in, improving caregiver collaboration, and designing functional, individualized home programming plans by engaging caregivers in therapy sessions. A case study with video examples will be highlighted throughout the presentation.

Learning Objectives

  1. Name the five phases of a coaching cycle that appear in the literature.
  2. Give two examples of how to use scaling to help a caregiver create appropriate goals.
