V-EDU-12: EPIC Leadership in AT - Sustained by Administrative Support

Overview

Does your district need to develop or fine-tune your district procedures to be sure the AT services provided are strategic and sustainable? In this session, participants will learn to Establish where they want to go by evaluating current practice, considering successful strategies and needs; Plan what strategies will create a change in practice in those areas where there is a need, Implement the strategies, evaluate the outcomes, and Chart a course for the next cycle of implementation. There will be a specific focus on the critical element of collaboration with school administrators in developing and supporting a change system.

  2. Describe two needed strategies for determining areas of improvement in AT services.
  3. Identify three potential actions taken by engaged administrators in developing a change system.

Biography

Joan Breslin Larson, M.Ed. is an independent consultant on issues relating to AT. Her work has a particular focus on policy, leadership and developing effective teams to improve services for assistive technology in special education. She was formerly a supervisor for services for students with low incidence disabilities at the Minnesota Department of Education and as an AT and UDL specialist. She has worked in AT for over 30 years, as an independent consultant, in a school setting, and at the state education agency. Joan lives in Minnesota, and is the parent of three adult children, one of whom had an IEP. Joan is a member of the QIAT Leadership Team.
