V-AAC-51: Word Counts & Word Clouds: Providing Meaningful AAC Feedback

Overview

So you've heard of automated data logging on speech generating devices, but you just don't know how functional it really is or if it's worth your time. Maybe you like the idea of data logging, but you're not sure if it will actually make your therapy better or help your students. Maybe you learned about data logging, but it just sounded a little too "research-y" or impractical to apply "in the trenches". If you've ever had these thoughts, then this session is for you! We will briefly discuss the what and the how of data logging, but just briefly, so that we can spend as much time as possible discussing ways to practically apply it in your day-to-day therapy! This session will focus on real life examples of how we put into practice information gathered from a data log to help guide our evaluations, therapy, and decision-making processes.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe three benefits of utilizing automated data logging on a speech generating device.
  2. Discuss three ways to use data logging to increase team involvement and use of the AAC system.
  3. Identify three ways to incorporate data logging visuals into therapy and the classroom.
