Choosing a Filter: How Our Worldviews Impact Facilitation, Practice, and Social Justice (.1 CEUs)

Justice, the fourth principle of ATRA’s Code of Ethics, mandates we serve our clients fairly and equitably. Our worldview, or how we make sense of the world, influences the manner in which we serve our clients. In this module, participants will examine the impact our worldviews have on facilitation, practice, and social justice. Attendees will participate in an experiential learning activity to understand how worldviews may influence each component of the APIE process and then engage in an interactive discussions on how they can leverage their understanding of worldviews to contribute to social justice.

Upon completion of the module, participants will be able to:
1. Define four paradigms: (1) Positivism, (2) Constructivism, (3) Critical Theory, and (4) Disability Theory
2. Describe how worldviews may influence each component of the APIE process
3. Describe two ways worldviews can influence social justice.
