Understanding past events help us make sense of our present situation and plan for the future. This is true for our personal lives as well as our profession. This module will explore the history of recreational therapy in nursing homes, explaining the history and regulatory process of nursing homes and the growth of recreational therapy in this setting. This module will describe opportunities and threats to RT practice in nursing homes, explain the impact of COVID, and look to future possibilities.

Upon completion of the module, participants will be able to:
1. Identify 3 significant events that shaped policy and regulations related to nursing homes
2. Describe the role and benefits of the recreational therapist in the nursing home setting
3. Explain 2 opportunities and challenges to RT in the nursing home setting
