Scott was a teacher, coach and principal for 19 years. He spent 12 of those years as Principal at Tumwater High School. Learn more about Scott. Scott Friedman Scott Friedman joined AWSP in July of 2018 after 25 years as a teacher, coach, school, and district administrator. He began his educational career at Ridgetop Junior High is Silverdale as a teacher and coach. From there he taught and coached at Riverside High School before embarking on his administrative career. Scott has served as a high school assistant principal and athletic director. From there he spent four years as an elementary principal. The last four years Scott has been the Director of Teaching and Learning for the Nine Mile Falls School District. Learn more. Jack Arend, AWSP Associate Director Jack joined the AWSP team in July 2019. He has served in education since 1989 as an elementary, middle and high school music teacher. He began his building leadership career in the fall of 2006 as the principal of Peter G. Schmidt Elementary in the Tumwater School District. After eleven years in the principalship, he served two years at the Central Office level overseeing multiple content areas and mentoring first year teachers. James Layman, AWSL Program Director James Layman joined the AWSL staff in the summer of 2017 as a Program Director with an emphasis on providing support in Eastern Washington. James has been involved in student leadership with AWSL since the summer of 2001. Roz Thompson, AWSP Government Relations & Advocacy Director Roz joined AWSP in June 2017. She is a state Danielson Framework specialist. She came from the Tumwater School District, where she was a Curriculum Supervisor and Professional Development Coordinator. Email Roz David Morrill, AWSP Communications & Technology Director David joined AWSP in December 2013 after working for OSPI. He worked on the Basic Education Finance Task Force and started on the Teacher/Principal Evaluation Program in 2010. When he's not working, he's successfully escaping from escape rooms with his wife Taylor, playing tennis, or buying the latest Apple product. Email David.
